Privacy Policy
1. Overview
WallSplit ("we," "us," or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data when you use the WallSplit macOS application.
2. Data We Don't Collect
WallSplit does not:
- Collect your name, email, or any personally identifiable information
- Track your app usage or behavior
- Create user accounts or require authentication
- Send data to our servers (except API calls described below)
- Use analytics, crash reporting, or telemetry
- Store cookies or browsing history
- Share your data with third parties
3. What Happens Locally (On Your Mac)
All processing happens on your device:
- API Keys: Your personal API keys for Unsplash, Pexels, Wallhaven, Pixabay, and NASA are stored securely in your Mac's Keychain. We never see or access them.
- Images: Wallpapers are stored locally in your system's wallpaper directory or the app's Library folder (~/Library/Application Support/WallSplit/)
- Presets & Settings: Your screen configurations, fit modes, and preferences are stored locally in JSON files
4. API Calls to Third Parties
When you use WallSplit's Browse feature, the app makes requests to external APIs. These APIs may collect limited data about your requests, but we do not:
- Log or monitor your searches
- Store search history
- Link your searches to any personal identifier
Third-party APIs used:
- Unsplash: Search queries sent to Unsplash API (see unsplash.com/privacy)
- Pexels: Search queries sent to Pexels API (see pexels.com/privacy)
- Wallhaven: Search queries sent to Wallhaven API (see wallhaven.cc/privacy)
- Pixabay: Search queries sent to Pixabay API (see pixabay.com/privacy)
- NASA APOD: Random photo requests to NASA API (no authentication data sent)
- Pinterest: API calls use your personal access token only (see pinterest.com/privacy)
Each service has its own privacy policy. We recommend reviewing them if you're concerned about how these platforms handle data.
5. HTTPS Encryption
All communication between WallSplit and external APIs is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS (industry-standard secure protocol). Your API keys and search queries are encrypted in transit.
6. In-App Purchases (StoreKit)
WallSplit includes optional Pro features purchased via Apple's App Store:
- Purchases are handled entirely by Apple
- We do not see your payment information
- Your purchase status is verified locally via StoreKit
- No personal data is shared with us for purchases
7. Keychain Storage
API keys (Unsplash, Pexels, etc.) are encrypted and stored in your Mac's Keychain, which is protected by your system login password. Only the WallSplit app can access these keys.
8. macOS Wallpaper API
WallSplit uses Apple's standard wallpaper APIs to apply wallpapers to your desktop. We do not intercept or monitor this process.
9. Children's Privacy
WallSplit is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If we become aware that a child has provided information, we will delete it immediately.
10. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)
Since WallSplit doesn't collect personal data, you don't need to worry about:
- Data access requests
- Deletion or portability rights
- Our data retention practices
However, if you have questions about a specific API provider's data practices, please contact them directly using the links above.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy if we add new features or change how data is handled. Changes will be posted here with an updated date. Continued use of WallSplit constitutes acceptance of changes.
